In the last two weeks or so, I’d started listening to Jacno again quite a bit. I’m not really sure why, I think just because I tend to operate in cycles and the simplicity of a lot of his music appealed to me. I considered writing a post about what it is I like about Jacno, how I first discovered him, all of that sort of thing. I even considered changing my profile picture to an image of him with my face superimposed on top (like my current Falco icon).
Today I found out Jacno died at the weekend.
I don’t have the energy to write anything clever. It’s sad news. Just watch this video, please.
Just discovered Jacno 2 weeks ago. There is something about him and his Elli that immediately captured my imagination. Probably it has a lot to do with their golden age, 1979-1982, right in the middle of the elegant electronic music revolution. Now they call this period in music “New Romantics”, “Coldwave”… We called it “Synth Music” in Sweden in those days. Exactly my favourite time in music, before American R&B etc. took over the radio playlists in 1983. In the right place in the right time…
I become very moved when I listen to this music, when I see this interesting video of Rectangle, and the video of “Anne cherchait l’amour”, a real cineastic masterpiece from the same time. The strong feeling of nostalgy and melancholy surprised me. Probably the reason is that they embody exactly what I wanted to do when I was young… Maybe my subconciousness reminded me of that.
