Seeing the book, The Perfection of the Paper Clip” held in your left hand nudged me to write this:
If I sent you a copy of my third book, “The Pocket Lint Chronicles” would you take a photo of it? It’s 450 pages — the story of collecting pocket lint from of people, gradually filing a clear plastic, ex paperclip box with lint (it took 2 years and 19 days). Hundreds of stories, facts, 150 illustrations (8+ of them using a scanning electron microscope), correspondence with NASA re astronaut’s pockets upon returning, etc. It all started as a joke and ended as a kind of spiritual quest. You’d be surprised how many people identify with pocket lint.
I only have 40 copies left of the 400-copy edition. Link below does not show cover which shows the box gradually getting full. I made up little plastic sashays of “Genuine Lint from the Box” to put into each book as they sold. Buyers got to pick which tiny collection of lint they wanted, and, they paid me what they thought it was worth. (It was worth its weight in gold, actually — I had it weighed by a chemist.) Average price paid was $10. (A wonderful man on disability with only one leg & an arm with no shoulder joint — who cycled across the America on a recumbent bike made from recycled Russans tanks — visiting children who had lost limbs — gave me $50. Just one of the stories about the hundreds lint donors.)
Seeing YOUR book, in your left hand, of course — however did I miss that email re its publication? (I was away in California I think, for months at a time, during that period, so…sorry.) Congratulations! It looks delicious. I just ordered it. :D
